TREKKING

Tour Overview

ABOUT THE TREK

The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is a popular and well-established path to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. It stands out for its accessibility, starting at the Marangu Gate, and for offering comfortable accommodation in mountain huts along the way. The standard itinerary spans 5 to 6 days, with a 6-day option recommended for better acclimatization. Trekkers pass through diverse landscapes, starting with lush rainforests, transitioning through heath and moorland zones, and finally reaching the rocky alpine desert near the summit. The summit attempt typically begins on the fifth day, involving a challenging nighttime ascent to Uhuru Peak for a sunrise view.

The Marangu Route is considered less physically demanding compared to some other routes, but climbing Kilimanjaro remains a significant challenge that requires proper preparation and determination. While the huts and more established infrastructure add comfort to the journey, climbers must not underestimate the altitude and demanding terrain. Experienced guides and support staff play a vital role in guiding trekkers safely to the summit. Overall, the Marangu Route offers a unique experience of conquering Africa’s highest summit while enjoying relative comfort, making it a memorable and rewarding adventure for those who undertake this remarkable journey.
