4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari

4 Days 3 Nights

Overview

The first thing that springs to most people’s minds when thinking of Rwanda is its turbulent political history. But today’s Rwanda is a far cry from the nation it was in the mid-90s: the country has emerged from the shadows and has much to offer visitors, most notably the tracking of endangered mountain gorillas in the lush Volcanoes National Park, which extends across the peaks and jungle–covered slopes of the volcanic Virunga Mountains. Other major tourist attractions include expansive Lake Kivu, ancient Nyungwe Forest with various primate species, and the game-rich savannah lands of Akagera National Park.

Begin your journey with a guided tour of Kigali, where you'll explore its key landmarks and cultural highlights. Continue by road to Volcanoes National Park, where your first stop is the Gorilla Guardians Village for an immersive cultural experience. At the park, embark on an unforgettable gorilla trekking expedition, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Rwanda’s rolling Virunga Mountains. Conclude your Rwanda adventure with an optional golden monkey trek and birdwatching excursion, before departing via Kigali International Airport.

Volcanoes Gorilla Tracking Experience – After completing park formalities, embark on a once-in-a-lifetime gorilla tracking experience. Upon locating a gorilla family, enjoy a full hour of close observation, interaction, and photography. Trekking through the light mountain forests on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains is a captivating experience. These endangered mountain gorillas—of which fewer than 700 remain—are typically hidden in dense tropical forest, but you will be able to observe them from just a few meters away. For your safety and comfort, wear hiking boots, long trousers, and gloves to protect against stinging nettles, and carry sufficient water, as the rainforest can become hot and humid during the day. Should the trek extend longer than expected, your ranger guide will select a safe spot for a picnic lunch either during or immediately following the trek.

After the trek, return to the lodge and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.
